Job title: Project Officer IWRM
Organisation: Joint Effort to Save the Environment (JESE)
Duty station: Buliisa District.
Salary: Negotiable.
Reporting to: Head of Department, Natural Resources Management.
About JESE: We are a not for profit organization, with a focus on natural resources Management. Founded in 1993, our projects and Programs have a national character and currently implementing activities in Northern Uganda, Rwenzori and the Albertine Regions. Our focus is on the following sectors; agriculture, Water and Sanitation and Natural Resources Management.
Overall purpose of the job: The job holder will be responsible for the implementation of activities related to Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in Buliisa district.

Description

JESE is currently implementing the IWRM project in two catchments, Mpanga and Upper Lake Albert (in Buliisa District). The project is implemented in close collaboration with the Local government and Ministry of Water and the Environment. The project ends in 2021. Thus, JESE is seeking to recruit Project Officer who will be charged with the implementation of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) activities specific to Buliisa District.

Qualifications

The prospecting candidate must demonstrate experience, knowledge in project management and previous experience in managing Projects in the Water Resources Management. The ideal candidate should have at least a degree in Environment, Natural resources, Development studies, or any other degree in humanities but with previous experience in implementation of projects in environment, water resources Management and Conservation. The candidate should also demonstrate good writing and planning skills and MUST be a resident and speaks the Major local Languages of Buliisa District. The candidate should also be fluent in English and possess basic computer skills; i.e, MS Office.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

 Plan and prepare monthly progress reports

 Plan and participate in Radio programs that Promote conservation and WASH.

 Plan and implement IWRM activities in Upper Lake Albert (ULA)- Buliisa

 Facilitate micro catchment planning activities in the ULA-Buliisa

 Facilitate the formation and development of grassroots IWRM structures.

 Facilitate sensitization of communities in ULA in Natural Resources Management, and Sanitation  Monitor the implementation of IWRM activities in ULA.

 Identify the priority needs for IWRM related capacity building for community participants and developing IWRM pilots
 Participate in the design of capacity building plans and approaches for addressing community IWRM priority needs

 Contribute to the development of IWRM related capacity building materials, processes and manuals  Development of M&E system and monitoring implementation/establishment of IWRM pilots at community level

 Contribute to the documentation of lessons learned from IWRM implemented activities

 Developing and documenting IWRM advocacy issues and sharing with the district officials for implementation and follow up

 Liaise and create linkage with the local government and relevant ministerial departments and directorates in Buliisa to implement IWRM activities and

 Plan and participate in Environment and WASH days in the district.
