MUJHU RESEARCH COLLABORATION – MUJHU CARE LTD, a Kampala based equal opportunities HIV/AIDS, TB and related clinical and implementation science research Organization with more than 350 employees is seeking interested, committed and reliable professionals with the described qualifications to apply for the following positions in the support of the following studies: MIRASOL clinical trial, a four year US Department of Defense funded project and EDCTP funded PREPARE & WOMANPOWER consortium activities lead by MUJHU as well as cross-cutting MUJHU activities.

1. Study Nurse/Counselor: Multiple positions Duty station: MUJHU and Kawempe Hospital

Description and purpose: The successful nursing professionals will be working closely with other health professionals/research staff and will provide counselling and nursing care to study participants.

Required qualifications and profile: A qualified nurse/midwife (nursing/midwifery diploma or higher qualification) with counselling experience with a current practicing licence and at least 2 years’ working experience in a busy health institution. Previous work experience in a clinical research environment and/or with HIV, TB and/or MCH clinical care would be a strong advantage. The desired person must be able and willing to work as part of a team and possess strong written and oral communication skills. The desired person would also possess a passion for MUJHU’s mission and an interest to develop experience and a possible career in clinical research. Commitment, reliability, and attention to detail are essential for this position. The holder of these positions will work under the supervision of the Nurse Coordinator with guidance from the Head of Nursing and Counselling Sections and will be responsible for the following duties: a) Maintain GCP and HSP certification b) Maintain knowledge of the currently approved study protocol/s c) Provide nursing care to study participants which may include one or more of the following:  Receive and register study participants and guide them through study procedures for that visit  Take and record vital signs  Complete relevant study participant forms and logs.  Perform phlebotomy and other laboratory specimen collection procedures from study participants and complete laboratory forms.  Screen potential participants for eligibility  Provide family planning services  Conduct group health education sessions  Provide immunization to study participants

 Provide study specific nursing duties in addition to above in accordance with the study protocol.

d) Provide counselling as required e) Participate in screening and enrollment of participants. f) Participate in any other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the relevant authorities

2. Research Assistant: multiple positions Description and purpose: The successful person will be working closely with other professionals on the study team to support and participate in the recruitment and follow up of research participants for the study.

Required qualifications and Profile: A Bachelor’s degree or Higher Diploma equivalent in a health –related field or social sciences. At least 2 years’ experience working in a Health or clinical research data handling setting and computer literacy is required. Commitment, reliability, attention to detail and personal integrity are essential for this position.

The holder of this position will work under the supervision of the Study Coordinator and will be responsible for the following duties:
a) Support and participate in study participant recruitment and follow up. b) Carry out quality control measures through the review of collected data for completeness and validity. c) Provide real-time data review feedback to the study team to resolve queries. d) Perform ongoing data cleaning. e) Troubleshoot to identify common causes of errors during documentation /protocol deviations and suggest corrective/preventive actions. f) Perform designated administrative duties. g) Assist the study Coordinator and program manager in compilation of study reports. h) Review consent documents before handing them over to the regulatory affairs office for safe custody. i) Collect required data from specified health centers/ hospitals and or homes of participants. j) Run errands between the study sites to facilitate data collection activities. k) Any other duties reasonably assigned by the relevant authorities.
3. Retention & Community Officer: 1 Position Description and purpose: The successful person will be working closely with other professionals on the study team to retain study participants for the study.

Required qualifications and profile: A diploma in Midwifery/Nursing or any related medical training from a recognized education institution. Certificate in Good Clinical practice is required. At least 3 years clinical and/or counseling experience in a busy hospital or clinic is preferred. Prior Health Visiting experience will be an added advantage. Must be self – motivated individual, with a keen eye to details and proper research documentation skills and willing to work late hours. Excellent team player with

strong interpersonal and communication skills. Computer skills in MS Office, MS excel in manage time effectively and prioritize work tasks.

The holder of this position will work under the supervision of the Study Coordinator with technical guidance from both the Health Visitor Supervisor and Community Liaison Coordinator and will be responsible for the following duties:

 Provide health education to study participants.  Retention of study participants in the research studies. This includes targeted follow-up through phone calls, other communication of enrolled study participants with the goal of achieving high retention rates.  Liaise with District Health Teams (DHT) to conduct verbal autopsies.  DHT training on verbal autopsy and data collection  Collect study participants’ locator information  Maintain proper study documentation.  Any other duties reasonably assigned by the relevant authorities.

4. Health visitor: Multiple positions
Description and purpose: The successful person will be working closely with other professionals on the study team to retain study participants for the study.

Required qualifications and profile:
A diploma in Midwifery/Nursing or any related medical training from a recognized education institution with a certificate in Good Clinical practice. At least 2 years clinical and/or counseling experience in a busy hospital or clinic is preferred. Highly motivated individual, with a keen eye to details and proper research documentation skills and willing to work late hours. Must have excellent team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills, computer skills in MS Office, MS excel. Manage time effectively and prioritize work tasks.
The holder of this position will work under the supervision of the Lead Health Visitor with technical support from the HV Supervisor and will be responsible for the following duties:
 Selected participants accompanied home and accurate record of their addresses taken and recorded on the locator forms.  Collect & document study participant locator information.  Constant update of participants’ home addresses in case of migrations on the locator forms.  Make telephone contact with study participants who have not turned up for scheduled appointment and appropriately document the outcome of every telephone call.  Ongoing counselling of those participants with social problems and solve them where possible.  Trace study participants who have moved from the original location.  Conduct individual health education and counselling sessions.  Any other duties reasonably assigned by the relevant authorities.
