Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives responsible for standardization, Quality Assurance, Metrology and Laboratory Testing (SQMT) with the objective of facilitating fair trade, promoting local industries and Consumer protection.
UNBS is looking for highly motivated candidates, result-oriented and qualified professionals with integrity for employment to fill the posts below;
1. Legal Counsel – 1 position on four year renewable contract
2. Principal Inspector- National Inspection (1 Position on three year renewable contract basis)
3. Legal Metrology Assistants – 9 positions on 12 months non Renewable Temporary contract
4. Office Assistant – 1 Position on three year renewable contract basis
5. Drivers – 2 positions on three year renewable contract basis

Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate shall be required to perform the following duties;
Provide legal advice to the Management and the National Standards Council on all major policy issues in the management of UNBS in line with the set laws.
Develop, Coordinate and supervise the drafting and reviewing of legal instruments, documents and letters in line with legal policies, procedures and SQMT Laws.
Oversee and monitor the progress of any legal proceeding in Courts of law including litigation or in Alternative Dispute Resolution in line with legal obligations and procedures.
Manage external lawyers and Coordinate the provision of legal services to the bureau and represent the bureau in Courts of Judicature in Uganda
Manage and coordinate the drafting and negotiation of all contracts/ Memorandum of Understanding that UNBS enters into in line with the legal provisions and UNBS mandate.
Manage and supervise the Prosecution of offenders in accordance with required laws.
Coordinate the business of the National Standards Council (NSC) including scheduling meetings, submission of documents, taking minutes and extract Council resolutions for Managements’ action in line with the approved Council Charter and related guidelines.
Maintaining proper records of decisions of the Council and custodian of Legal and critical documentation of the Bureau.
Review and provide technical advice on draft Organizational Policies initiated by the different departments.
Coordinate the performance of all staff in the Department and ensure that targets, plans and outputs are achieved within schedules and budgets and regularly review their performance during performance review meetings and annual performance appraisal.
Review and guide Management in the formulation, implementation and/or amendment of UNBS Operational policies.
Prepare and submit monthly, Quarterly, Semi-annual and annual workplans, budgets and reports in accordance with timelines given
Perform any other related duties as required by the Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Interested candidates should possess;
A Masters degree in Law (LLM) from a recognized University/Institution
A professional qualification in ICSA
Post Graduate Diploma in Legal practice
Must have served as a Principal Officer for at least 3 years
Experience of at least 9 years in Legal Practice
Well developed leadership skills, interpersonal relationship skills, communication, Teamwork, Analytical, Problem solving and decision making skills. Knowledge of the legislative, strategic and operational framework of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards Communication ICT skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Internet applications among others).
High moral character and proven integrity, innovative, creative and self-driven. 2
Member of a recognized professional body is an added advantage
Age: Between 35 and 45 years.
The successful candidate must have a high level of integrity, professionalism, Communication, Teamwork and Analytical skills.
